Bastion Community to welcome 200 volunteers from Washington, D.C.
The Bastion Community of Resilience will welcome approximately 200 volunteers to their site in Gentilly for a Day of Service on Thursday, Feb. 9. The volunteers, traveling from the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, will work on landscaping the grounds around the new residences and assemble furniture for Bastion’s newly constructed Wellness Center.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Bastion Wellness Center, located at 1901 Mirabeau Ave. The visit is part of a corporate partnership between Bastion and Red River, a national information technology firm. Community members are invited to meet leaders from both Bastion and Red River during the event.
Phase I of the Bastion includes leasing a total of 16 residential units and opening the wellness center. After over six years of planning and construction, the first 38 residences for returning warriors and their families as well as senior community members are beginning to fill with residents.
