Crime Report: 14 assaults reported in a week
About 14 assaults were reported in the Third District from May 12 to May 19, with three of those assaults all occurring on Sunday, May 14 across the district.
There were seven simple batteries, five domestic simple batteries, and one aggravated battery and aggravated assault each over the course of a week.
The NOPD is currently asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted for aggravated assault at Esplanade Avenue and Wisner Boulevard. On May 1, an unknown black male with a braided hairstyle and white t-shirt at the time pointed his gun at a victim while riding in the pictured vehicle below.
The victim told the police that at around 12:10 p.m., the suspect leaned out of the passenger window of a silver car and aimed his pistol at the victim, as he was standing at the corner of Esplanade Avenue and Wisner Boulevard. Then the driver of the silver car fled into City Park.
The NOPD arrested four individuals in an earlier assault incident that took place on Wisner Boulevard and Lelong Drive on Sunday, May 14. A 41-year-old male and a nine-year-old juvenile female were at the intersection a little before 8 p.m., when paintball pellets were reported to have been fired from a passing dark-colored Jeep on North Carrollton Avenue.
The pellets struck the male victim in the groin and the juvenile victim in the forearm and shoulder. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene.
According to the NOPD, a witness followed the suspect vehicle to a parking lot at the intersection of Duplessis and St. Denis streets, where Third District officers were on patrol at about 8:23 p.m. The witness informed the officers of the incident, and the officers approached the vehicle and conducted a search, where they found a paintball gun and accompanying accessories.
Further investigation at the scene of the assault linked the vehicle occupants to the incident, and the Third District officers arrested the following individuals:
- A 15-year old juvenile male, who identified as the perpetrator who allegedly fired the paintball gun at the victims, was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on two counts of simple battery.
- A 16-year-old juvenile male was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on two counts of accessory to simple battery.
- Clarence McMiller, aged 17, was booked into Central Lockup on two counts each of accessory to simple battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
- Jadon Dawson, aged 18, was booked into Central Lockup on two counts each of accessory to simple battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Additionally, the NOPD is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a vehicle burglary. Officers said the victim reported that on May 17 around 7:45 a.m., she parked her car in a parking lot of 7000 Milne Boulevard and entered an area business.
Shortly later, a black vehicle pulled in next to the victim’s car and an unknown individual burglarized the vehicle. See surveillance videos of the vehicle below.
