Crime Report: Third District sees 17 auto burglaries, three homicides in nine days
The New Orleans Police’s Third District saw at least 45 crimes over nine days, according to reports. From Wednesday, March 22 to Wednesday, March 29, the Third District received reports of 17 auto burglaries, 14 thefts (including three auto thefts), seven miscellaneous burglaries, and three homicides.
The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred in the 5100 block of Eastern Street around 11:30 p.m. on March 27. Third District officers responded to calls of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area. When officers arrived, they discovered a male victim in his early 20’s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside of a house. The victim was pronounced dead on scene by EMS. Homicide Detective Tanisha Sykes is in charge of the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 504-658-5300 with any information regarding this incident.
The NOPD is also looking to identify and locate two subjects who have valuable information on a homicide in the 5000 block of Louisa Street.
Arrests: Jeffery Edward Coleman was wanted as a suspect in the homicide of a 17-day-old infant on March 23. He was apprehended in the 7600 block of Arbor Drive and faces the charge of second degree murder. Leroy Day was apprehended in the 5000 block of Burgundy Street for an aggravated battery by cutting which took place at Old Gentilly Road and Louisa Street on March 24.
