Dillard University to celebrate MLK with fellowship, Day of Service
Dillard University will celebrate MLK Day with a week’s worth of events that will reflect on the life, legacy, and service of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The week begins with chapel service on Sunday, Jan. 15 and ends with a spoken word event on Thursday, Jan 19.
While some activities are reserved for the Dillard community, here are the events that are free and open to the public:

MLK Chapel Service
at Lawless Memorial Chapel on Dillard University Campus (2601 Gentilly Blvd.)
“Join us for fellowship and reflection as we reflect on the life of Dr. King and the movement for social justice. The message will be centered on focusing on the prosperity that is promised through God rather than the turmoil that impacts our daily lives.”
Monday, Jan. 16, 2017
MLK Day of Service
Bethany United Methodist Church (4533 Mendez St.)
9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“Spend the MLK Day of Service with Dillard University. The Dillard University Office of Church and Community Relations will be working at four sites in New Orleans establishing community gardens. There will also be vendors at Bethany United Methodist Church providing free information as part of a community outreach health initiative. MLK Worship Celebration
Lawless Memorial Chapel
“The MLK Worship Celebration will feature music from the Dillard University Concert Choir, the VisionQuest Gospel Choir and the St. Peter Claver Catholic Church Gospel Choir. The keynote speaker is Rev. Dr. Michael Pfleger, Senior Pastor at St. Sabina Church in Chicago, Ill. Father Pflager has been a social justice advocate on Chicago’s South Side for more than three decades.”
