Dillard University to host annual Scholarship Gala, Bleu Devil Classic this weekend
The Dillard University Department of Athletics will host two major events this weekend: their 9th Annual Billy Ray Hobley Scholarship Gala on Friday, Feb. 17, and their annual Bleu Devil Classic matchup between the Dillard University and Xavier University men’s basketball teams on Saturday, Feb. 18.
The Scholarship Gala will take place at 7 p.m. in the atrium of the Dillard Professional Schools and Sciences Building on campus, located at 2601 Gentilly Blvd. Award recipients of the night include Dillard Alumni Ronald Henderson and Walter Tillman (Legacy Award), and New Orleans Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry (Blue Flame of Excellence Award).
The Billy Ray Hobley Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a Dillard University student-athlete or athletes each year that have at least a 2.5 GPA and embody the spirit of Billy Ray Hobley.
Single tickets for the gala are $125, and tables of six (6) are available for $750.

Dillard’s annual Bleu Devil Classic game against Xavier will take place on Saturday, February 18, on The Battlefield at Dent Hall on Dillard’s campus, and will top off at 4:30 p.m.
Through a partnership between the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and WGNO television, matchup will be broadcast live on WNOL-TV, NOLA 38.
Dillard, currently ranked 11th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I Coaches’ Poll, will be looking to sweep the rival Gold Rush in the regular season for the first time since the 2000-2001 season.
The men’s game will be preceded by the second matchup of the season between the Dillard and Xavier women’s teams. Earlier in the season, The Gold Nuggets topped the Lady Bleu Devils 68-66 with a buzzer-beating three-pointer. The rematch tips off at 2:00 p.m.
