Krewe of Dreux holds 50th anniversary parade on Samedi Gras
Krewe of Dreux celebrates 50 years of parading through the streets of Gentilly today (Feb. 26). The eclectic walking krewe has paraded on the Saturday of Mardi Gras weekend and has since 1972.
Krewe of Dreux’s 50th Anniversary Blowout begins at at noon in Miltenberger Park, 5300 Peoples Ave. The free public party will feature live music, food, libations and merriment.
The parade began with a group living at the corner of Dreux Street and Franklin Avenue deciding to throw their own parade. In the first year, around 30 or 40 people marched. At its height, there were thousands.
The parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Miltenberger Park, travel Dreux Street to St. Roch Avenue, then take St. Roch up to Prentiss Avenue, where it disbands.
To join the parade, decorate your vehicle or wear your marching shoes and a costume. Bring your own throws and music maker.
