Police blotter: Shooting, carjacking, armed robbery reported
The New Orleans Police Department reported a shooting, a carjacking, and an armed robbery and kidnapping occurred Wednesday (April 14) in Gentilly neighborhoods.
Gunmen opened fire Wednesday night in the 4600 block of Chef Menteur Highway, leaving one man injured.
Police said the victim was being chased by the gunmen at about 10:30 p.m. when they began shooting and struck him. The Emergency Medical Service took the victim to the hospital.
As of Thursday morning, police did not know the victim’s identity, according to the report.
Earlier on Wednesday, a man was carjacked in the 3000 block of Elysian Fields Avenue, near the Interstate 610 exit. The carjacker approached the 33-year-old man and demanded his keys. He complied, and the carjacker fled in his car.
The car is a red Honda Accord with Louisiana license plate 536 DYT.
A woman was robbed and kidnapped early Wednesday morning. She was at her home in 4900 block of Spain Street at about 5:15 a.m. when two men took her purse and forced her into a vehicle.
They drove to the 2300 block of Almonaster Avenue, in the St. Roch area, where one of the men took out a gun and a struggle ensued. The men then drove her back to her residence and fled, police said.
One of the suspects has been arrested in this case, the NOPD reported on Thursday.
