Police release video of double shooting in St. Bernard area near Bayou St. John
The New Orleans Police Department has released dramatic video of a shootout late Wednesday (May 11) outside an apartment building at Davey Street and Harrison Avenue.
The shooting left two men with multiple gunshot wounds. After police were called to the area at about 10:30 p.m., one victim was taken to a hospital by the Emergency Medical Service. The second victim arrived at a local hospital in a private car.
The video shows a group of men at the corner near some parked cars. A few are bent over as if looking for something on the ground when gunfire goes off, apparently from across the street.
Suddenly, about 10 people flee the area, running toward the apartment building. Another man dives under a nearby car and appears to fire shots from beneath the car.
A few more men dive under another car, then walk away once the shooting stops. One is holding what is probably a gun.
At the apartment building, as at least three men walk up the stairs to a second-floor apartment, one appears to fire some shots from the landing.
The 4100 block of Davey Street is located across Bayou St. John from City Park and near McDonogh 35 College Preparatory High School. Harris Playground is also located in the area.
It is a block away from the scene of a triple murder in March, when a woman and two men were shot to death inside an apartment in the 4100 block of Encampment Street.
In 2017, the body of 39-year-old Donielle Conerly, a Pontchartrain Park resident and mother of four, was found in the bayou nearby, her car parked at Davey and Harrison. Her death was ruled a homicide.
