Recovery School District releases statement on Gentilly Terrace site
After the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) and the Recovery School District (RSD) heard input from the Gentilly Terrace and Gardens Improvement Association, the RSD has decided to not currently use the former Gentilly Terrace Elementary School site as a permanent location for a school.
Patrick Dobard, who is stepping down as Superintendent of the RSD, has emailed a letter to members of the Gentilly Terrace And Gardens Improvement Association, after the neighborhood association expressed preference for Audubon Charter School to be placed at the site for the 2018-2019 school.
According to Dobard in his letter, the Gentilly Terrace facility may be used based on need for the 2017-2018 school year as swing space to accommodate schools in need of room, due to incidents such as a fire or for refurbishment projects.
Dobard said the RSD expects the Gentilly Terrace site to be included in the OPSB Request for Application process that solicits applications from interested school operators for vacant school facilities in the 2018-2019 school year and after.
