Roadwork ahead: Allen Street to close between Humanity and Gentilly Boulevard
Allen Street will be closed between Humanity Street and Gentilly Boulevard for construction beginning Wednesday (Dec. 7) at 7 a.m. , the city announced. The closure is expected to last through Dec. 15.
This closure will allow crews to perform roadway restoration features, along with installing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant curb ramps at intersections as part of the $39.5 million Dillard A/B Infrastructure Improvement Project.
During this time, northbound traffic on Allen Street will detour onto Humanity Street and continue onto Saint Anthony Street (see map above). Signage and traffic control measures, such as barricades and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians to the safest route of travel.
The Dillard A/B Infrastructure Improvement Project will consist of removing, replacing and repairing existing water, sewer and drainage lines, repaving the roadways, installing new sidewalks when necessary and installing ADA-compliant curb ramps at all intersections. The project is currently scheduled to begin wrapping up in the spring of 2024.
The Department of Public Works’ contractor for the project is Barriere Construction Co.
