Roadwork ahead: St. Roch lakebound lanes to close near Pierre Capdau Charter School
The lakebound lanes of St. Roch Avenue from Athis Street to Vienna Street will be closed beginning Monday (Jan. 23) at 7 a.m. The closure will last approximately four weeks. The street will reopen to vehicular traffic at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20.
The city’s Department of Public Works construction contractor, Command Construction, will complete roadway removal and restoration during the closure.
Motorists are advised to use caution during this time as detours and changes to traffic patterns will be in place. Vehicles traveling toward the lake on St. Roch Avenue will detour to Athis Street, and continue lakebound on Music Street for two blocks before turning left onto Vienna Street to return to St. Roch Avenue.
Signage and traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians. Residents have been directed to move all vehicles off the street before Monday at 7 a.m. The city asks that residents adhere to “no parking” signage on the streets. Vehicles parked in these zones will be ticketed and towed.
This temporary disruption is part of the Milneburg Group A joint infrastructure project with DPW and the Sewerage & Water Board. Once complete, the project will improve drainage; repair streets, curbs and sidewalks; and install new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant curb ramps at intersections. The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2023.
The city currently has 55 roadwork projects under construction with an estimated value of nearly $597 million.
