Seabrook Bridge to stay closed as more structural problems are discovered
The Seabrook Bridge, officially the Senator Ted Hickey Bridge or Louisiana 1264, will remain closed for another two to three weeks, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced Thursday (July 6).
The bridge that connects Gentilly to New Orleans East across the Industrial Canal will stay closed due to “unforeseen structural issues discovered during this emergency repair,” according to the DOTD. Workers were preparing to reopen the bridge to limited traffic after six weeks of repair work.
The state DOTD closed the bridge on May 25 after a broken steel structural member was discovered during a bridge inspection.
