Suspect arrested in threat to UNO campus
The New Orleans Police Department’s Intelligence Division, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, UNO Police and the U.S. Marshals worked in concert to arrest 22-year-old Karam Mohammed Alhatel in connection with terrorizing, stalking and unlawful disruption of the operation of a school. The offense occurred on Friday (Nov. 18).
According to investigators, made credible threats against the University of New Orleans.
Throughout the course of the investigation, detectives positively identified Alhatel as a suspect and secured an arrest warrant.
On Monday, (Nov. 21), Alhatel was apprehended by JPSO, transported to the Orleans Justice Center and booked accordingly.
Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said, “Keeping our community safe is our number one priority. The swift actions of our law enforcement partners and the community working together prevented what could have been a tragic event.”
