University of New Orleans to revive campus parade, reveal new mascot
This Mardi Gras, the Krewe of UNO will roll through the University of New Orleans (UNO) campus for the first time since 2013. The parade returns to campus on Tuesday, Feb. 21, and will give students, neighbors, faculty, and staff the chance to celebrate Carnival season the Privateer way, with beads, swag, and pirate ships.
UNO is located at 2000 Lakeshore Drive. The festivities will kick off inside the University Center at 12:30 p.m. with the unveiling of the new Privateer mascot, which will then mount a pirate ship float and lead the parade around campus.
The parade will begin there and finish at the water feature next to the Amphitheatre where participants will be treated to king cake. See the campus map here.
UNO student organizations, marching bands from Brother Martin High School and Sophie B. Wright Charter School, fraternities, sororities, the homecoming court, athletic teams and representatives from academic departments and other campus groups will participate in the parade.
More than 1,500 students from area middle and high schools will also be on campus that day as part of a daylong event UNO is hosting in celebration of National Engineers Week. The parade is open to the public.
