This Week at The Broad: A Fanstastic Woman and a Wrinkle in Time
We can’t believe it ourselves, but this week marks two years of us being open for business.
A lot has changed for us since opening night, but what hasn’t is our continuing effort to make sure that our neighbors have the most diverse lineup of films anywhere in the city. With that in mind, here are two new releases that are sure to entertain.
A WRINKLE IN TIME is the book that you read when you are young and never forget. We’re inclined to believe that the movie will provide a similar amount of unforgettable memories. Directed by Ava DuVernay, this film is a visual feast wrapped in some of the best casting decisions that Hollywood has made in a long time. And honestly, isn’t everything better with Oprah involved? We expect lots of children and school groups for this film so don’t hesitate to grab those tickets, they’re on sale now.
Did you watch the Oscars? If you did you’re probably jealous that you didn’t have a chance to win a jet ski, and you also probably noticed that A FANTASTIC WOMAN picked up the win for Best Foreign Language Film. As luck would have it, we happen to be the only theater in town to be playing this movie and it opens just a few days after the awards. We know there’s going to be a lot of interest in this film so we plan on giving it a full run so that you all have a chance to see what the buzz is about.
RED SPARROW and BLACK PANTHER remain in screens as the latter just eked out GET OUT to be the highest grossing film in our two years of operation. Sadly, this Thursday marks the end of the road for three of our big Oscar nominated films as we say goodbye to CALL ME BY YOUR NAME, THE SHAPE OF WATER, and I, TONYA.
Last year, to celebrate his 30th birthday we let one of our managers host a mystery movie. This year MICHAEL’S MYSTERY MOVIE VOLUME 2 plays on March 11th with the same goal. We will be showing a movie sight unseen and 100% of the ticket price will be donated to NAMI New Orleans to help with mental health support in the city. We don’t know what the movie is, but Michael assures us it’s a great one.
After two years of ALMOST pulling it off, we are happy to be bringing you a special Easter morning screening of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. This special sing-a-long event will be hosted by Dean’s List, one of New Orleans’ finest comedy troupes and will also include free donuts with every ticket purchased. Tickets are already on sale and going fast, so grab yours now and start warming up your voice.
If you like your rock a little more modern than 33 A.D. we have a great concert film coming to the later this spring. DISTANT SKY – Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Live In Copenhagen is sure to be a powerful concert dealing with some of the same material featured in the last Nick Cave film we featured. Tickets are now on sale and we expect it to be just as busy and awesome as the last time.
BYOB(aby) will be showing RED SPARROW this week. This infant-friendly show will be on Thursday at 11 AM and will feature sushi from Asuka available for pre-order on our website. With the lights turned up and the sound turned down it is a perfect way to bring your baby to the cinema in a stress-free environment.
Thanks again for reading, and we’ll see you at the movies!
