Woman ejected from scooter and killed in hit-and-run

A woman was killed Tuesday (Sept. 19) while riding a motor scooter on Franklin Avenue, the New Orleans Police Department. reported. The fatal hit-and-run crash occurred at the intersection of Franklin and Filmore at about 5:45 p.m.
Police determined that the victim, an adult female, was heading north when a driver in a sport utility vehicle pulled out of a nearby business and turned from northbound Franklin Avenue onto westbound Fillmore Avenue. The SUV allegedly struck the victim’s scooter in the intersection and continued on Filmore Avenue.
The impact caused the victim to be ejected from the scooter. She was declared dead on the scene.
The perpetrator’s vehicle is described as a dark-colored full-sized SUV, pictured above, of unknown make, model or license plate. The vehicle may have front-end damage from the collision. Police have released a surveillance photo of the SUV and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the driver.
No additional details are currently available. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and determine the official cause of death upon completion of an autopsy and notification of her family.
