Crime Report: Assault reported almost every day in last two weeks; stabbing suspect identified
The Third District saw an assault reported almost every day of the week from April 12 to April 26, 2017. Three assaults in total were reported for each weekday during this time period, excluding Thursday, which saw only two assaults.
Around 27 assaults were reported for the Third District in the past two weeks, and Wednesday was the weekday with the highest offenses reported during this time, totaling nine. A string of five assaults occurred in “zone x” of the Third District, with each assault happening in the night between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Twelve assaults were reported in the Gentilly area above the I-610 and I-10 areas in the Third District.
Suspect named in Prentiss Avenue Stabbing
On Monday, April 24, Third District officers identified the suspect in a stabbing that occurred on Prentiss Avenue and Wildair Drive. The NOPD obtained an arrest warrant for LauraLee Thomas, age 29.
According to officials, at about 6:38 p.m., officers responded to the location from a call about a fight. Once their arrived, the police saw the victim suffered stab wounds to their face, arm, and leg during the incident.
After investigation into the confrontation continued, Third District Detectives said they were able to confirm Thomas as the alleged perpetrator in the assault,
