Man found dead on the train tracks was homicide victim, police say
A man was found dead on the train tracks at Peoples Avenue near Mexico Street just after midnight, apparently hit by a train. Police later discovered that the train did not kill him; he had been shot to death.
On Wednesday (Nov. 16) at about 12:05 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a report of an individual struck by a passing train. They found a man lying at the tracks in the 6300 block of Peoples Avenue,
He was declared dead at the scene, and death that was initially unclassified. During further investigation, the man’s body was found to have sustained gunshot wounds and he was determined to be the victim of a homicide.
At that time, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives assumed control of the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and determine official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
