One man killed, another injured in St. Bernard area
A man was shot to death and another was injured in a shooting Monday (June 28) afternoon in the St. Bernard neighborhood, the New Orleans Police Department reported.
At about 4:20 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to gunfire in the 4100 block of Jumonville Street. They found two men with gunshot wounds.
The Emergency Medical Service pronounced one of the men dead at the scene. He was later identified as Tommy Butler, 24.
The other man, also 24, was taken to the hospital.
Police determined that three men had approached the victims and opened fire. The victims returned fire, but it is not clear whether the three gunmen suffered injuries.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine the homicide victim’s official cause of death and release the victim’s name upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
