OPSB and RSD offer enrollment options to families displaced by Hurricane Harvey
The Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) and Recovery School District (RSD) announced on Thursday, Aug. 31 that public schools in New Orleans have opened enrollment opportunities for any students displaced by Hurricane Harvey.
The RSD and OPSB said in their statement Thursday that they are committed to keeping siblings together and enrolling evacuees in schools where their host families are also enrolled.
OPSB Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lewis Henderson, Jr. offered this statement below:
“The most important thing, especially for young people, is to get them back into a routine, to get back to what is a new normal.” “That means school. So we are working to enroll displaced families who are now in New Orleans, keeping them together with their siblings and other family at a new school. That way they can feel welcome and safe after going through what was likely a terrible ordeal.”
