Roadwork ahead: Temporary lane closures on Franklin Avenue
Beginning on Tuesday (Dec. 6) at 6 a.m., the city will temporarily close a northbound travel lane in the 5350-5400 blocks of Franklin Avenue to accommodate subsurface utility repairs as part of the Milneburg Group A construction project. The closure is scheduled to remain in effect until Dec. 14, at 5:30 p.m. when both lanes reopen to northbound traffic.
During this temporary closure, crews will also be working at the intersection of Mithra Street and Franklin Avenue which will restrict access to Mithra Street between Eads Street and Franklin Avenue to local traffic only. At this time, Franklin Avenue will not be accessible via Mithra Street. Residents and businesses in this area were notified of the closure through a neighborhood canvass.
The Milneburg Group A project was designed by Mott MacDonald, Inc. and is being constructed by Command Construction Industries, LLC. Click here to view the community meeting presentation and map of the project.
The scope of work varies by block but includes repairing sewage, water and drainage lines, rebuilding the street entirely and repairing sidewalks and curbs. In general, the contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. The project is scheduled to be completed by winter of 2023, weather permitting.
